From Vermont and points north
From points north of Amherst, take Route 91 south to exit 20 (Northampton). Turn left at the first traffic light onto Damon Road. At the next light, turn left and take Route 9 east to Amherst. At the town center, turn right onto Route 116 and follow it south three miles to Hampshire.

From Boston and points east
From Boston, it is approximately 2 hours to the campus. Follow the Massachusetts Turnpike to Exit 4 (West Springfield/Route 91). Take Route 91 north to Exit 19 (Northampton/Amherst, Route 9). Turn right on Route 9 (east) and follow it to the center of Amherst. Turn right on Route 116 and follow it south for approximately three miles. The first sign you'll see for Hampshire is the Farm Center. About one thousand feet (.2 mile) farther south is the Admissions Office, and another thousand feet south is the main entrance to the college. (An alternate route to Hampshire is posted at the intersection of Route 9 and Route 47.)

From Hartford, New York City and points south
Hampshire College is a 3.5 hour drive from New York City. Follow Route 95 to New Haven, Connecticut, and then Route 91 north from New Haven to Northampton, Massachusetts (Exit 19: Northampton/Amherst, Route 9). Turn right on Route 9 (east) and follow it to the center of Amherst. Turn right on Route 116 and follow it south for approximately three miles. The third sign you'll see for Hampshire is the Admissions Office. (An alternate route to Hampshire is posted at the intersection of Route 9 and Route 47.)

From Albany and points west
Continue on I-90, into Massachusetts where it becomes the Massachusetts Turnpike. Take Exit 4 (West Springfield, Route I-91) onto Route I-91 north until Exit 19 (Northampton/Amherst, Route 9). Follow the directions from Boston and points east.

:: air, train and bus transportation
All major airlines serve Bradley International Airport in Windsor Locks, Connecticut, about an hour from Amherst. For transportation from Bradley International to Amherst, we recommend that you rent a car or use Valley Transporter, a car service. Call Valley Transporter at (413) 253-1350 or (800) 872-8752.

AMTRAK trains run regularly from New York City to Springfield, Massachusetts. Buses run hourly from New York and Boston to Springfield, where bus connections for Amherst may be made. Buses run hourly from Springfield to Amherst. For transportation from Amherst to Hampshire College, taxis are available year round, though not recommended. Instead, take advantage of the free Five College bus service that runs all year in coordination with PVTA. (Catch the bus in front of the Peter Pan Station in downtown Amherst which says ''Mt. Holyoke College via Hampshire College''.)

Peter Pan Bus Lines (1-800-343-9999) provides extensive services throughout Western Massachusetts, with connections to points throughout the East Coast. Their Boston to Amherst schedule and Amherst to Boston schedule are online.
AMTRAK trains (1-800-USA-RAIL) has extensive schedule information. (It helps to know the city codes for Springfield [SPG], Boston [BOS], and New York City [NYP].
